The Happiness of Those Who Believe
                                                   A NaruHina Fanfic

She opened her eyes and looked up at her pitch black surroundings. It was the night of the new moon and the only light was the faint twinkling of the million of stars above her. The thick green trees encircled her. The strong rusty scent of blood filled the air all around her.

"Where am I?"Hinata Hyuuga thought to herself. "What happened to me?"

Hinata's head began to throb. She applied pressure in a vain attempt to relieve her pain. She felt her hand become wet and sticky. Instantly, she realized that was where the scent was coming from.
Desperately, Hinata tried to remember what had happened to her on that dark, moonless night. Frightening memories of the battle suddenly came back to her.
Hinata froze as the horrific events of that night replayed themselves in her mind.
A kunai knife had come out of the tree tops in the darkness. Naruto Uzumaki, Hinata's teammate on this mission and her long time crush was unable to dodge the army of kunais coming toward him. Within seconds he was on the ground with dozens of of the deadly weapons immobilizing him due to the blood loss they had caused.

   "Naruto-kun....."

Hinata tried to stand only to discover that her weak legs were unable support her body weight. She fell to her knees. She was in more pain than she had ever felt in her life.

     "Naruto-kun...."

It was then that Hinata had an idea.

      "My Byakugan!"

Hinata focused her chakra to her eyes.

     "Byakugan!"

Hinata scanned the battle field for Naruto. Finally she detected his chakra about ten meters away. She was determined to reach him, even at the cost of her own life.
She began crawling on her hands and knees. Even the slightest movement was excruciating. It took Hinata everything she had in her not to faint from the amount of blood she had lost.
Hinata's head began throbbing to an even greater extent as she felt the blood drip downward, covering her face. At that moment that dark night sky was illuminated by a bright flash of lightning accompanied by the crashing of thunder and a down-pouring of rain.

     "Naruto-kun...."

Slowly, Hinata began to recall the events of that night. After Naruto's injury Hinata ran toward him. One of the kunoichi had a folding fan that she used to control lighting. She was so concerned for Naruto's safety she momentarily forgot when she was the last thing she remembered was the lightning and then darkness.

She had to get to him! She would get to him. No matter what she had to do, if it was the last thing that she ever did, she would reach him. She crawled on her hands and knees through the endless pain. Every movement was excruciating. Her head began to pound.

"I must have hit my head on something. That would explain the headache and memory loss."

With great pain and effort she lifted her head. It was so dark....Then, she saw him! He was lying, unconscious, about five feet away. It began to rain. She crawled more quickly through the mud and rain. Her weak arms gave under the pressure of her body, but she didn't care. She had to reach him.

      "Naruto-kun....."

After what seemed to her like an eternity, Hinata reached Naruto. She grabbed his wrist, feeling for a pulse. After a moment she found it, though faint, she found a pulse. In the distance Hinata saw Sakura Haruno, a teammate and medical ninja.

"Sakura-chan!" Hinata cried across the pitch black battlefield.

Hearing her name being called, Sakura scanned the blood-covered battlefield for it's source. It was a battered and bloody Hinata Hyuuga, a teammate of hers.

"Sakura-chan! Help him! Help Naruto! Help him....."

Hinata passed out on Naruto's chest as Sakura ran to the two injured shinobi's' aid. She first revived the, now unconscious Hinata and proceeded to help the nearly dead Naruto Uzumaki. Hinata watched, wide-eyed and on the verge of tears as Sakura used a bit of her chakra to cut open Naruto's shirt.
"He is severely injured, but I think I can save him." Sakura informed an almost hysterical Hinata.
Sakura placed her hands on Naruto's bare chest. After a few moments, Naruto's blue eyes slowly opened.
"Stay here, both of you! I am going to get Kakashi." Sakura ordered the two ninjas.
Naruto and Hinata laid side-by-side staring at the starry night sky.

       "Naruto-kun?" Hinata asked.

       "Yeah?" Replied Naruto.

       "Wh-What happened?"

"It doesn't matter, Are you okay?"

       "I-I think so....."

       "Good."

Though they were silent or a long tine, Hinata couldn't silence her mind. She could not stop thinking about Naruto and their near-death experience.

"I have to do it! I have to."

Naruto stood and leaned on a nearby tree. The rain washed over the two blood-soaked teammates. Hinata got to her feet and followed her Naruto.

        "I have to tell him."

The pair stood beside one another under the tree being sheltered from the rain pounding against the ground all around them.

         "Naruto-kun?"

         "Yes?"

         " I-I love you Naruto-kun."
Alright, I am actually quite proud of this and I hope you all like it. I started writing this last summer and it has finally passed my harsh editing requirements and was allowed to see the light of day. The rain scene is one of my personal favorites. I wrote that durning a storm last summer. I hope I accurately portrayed a thunder storm in my story. I worked very hard on this and I am hoping my efforts were not in vain. This is my favorite pairing. I hope you enjoy.
